My Dad Rocks...
I count myself very lucky to have grown up with my dad. He's a dad I can look up to and go to for advice. He truly made me who I am today (okay, mom helped, too, but it's Father's Day!) What's been fun, though, is watching him transform into Grandpa. I catch myself with my mouth hanging open or shaking my head at the things he's either doing with or allowing my boys to do... I would NEVER have gotten away with that. He laughs, and reminds me that's what being a Grandpa is all about! He's an awesome dad. Sets the standard and helps me achieve it, encouraging me along the way. I could tell silly stories about car trips when he would roll up all the windows and remind us what we'd eaten for dinner the night before and then letting us 'smell' what we'd had for dinner...did I mention it was just mom, my sister, and I- all girls...GROSS!!! Or I could tell you how he thought it was funny to pull his grey sweatpants up to his armpits and walk around the house sending us girls screaming to our bedrooms! (I have a picture of him with me in above named sweats...up to his armpits...) I could tell many stories about learning to drive...thanks for being so patient, dad. I could tell you how proud he was when I graduated from high school and then college, and when I got my first 'real' teaching job. I could also share about hard times when I saw my dad broken, but turning to his faith to restore him. I could tell you about the smile on his face when he remarried and the joy I saw. Then comes the grandboys, and my dad became grandpa... My dad rocks... Happy Father's Day to all of you dads... especially mine, and to my hubby, too, who is an incredible dad...(we'll talk about that in another blog!)
