Prayer for a Friend, Casting Crowns

I received some news yesterday that broke me...Tears began streaming down my face as I read an email updating me about the situtation and circumstances of someone's life...someone very dear to me. My stomach began to tie up in knots; I felt sick; my heart literally broke right there as I was staring at the computer screen. As I went to my room to get on my knees and plead with my Father on 'her' behalf, there were no words...just tears and sobs...I threw up my hands and literally lay there broken before God: not for me, but for 'her'. Searching for words to cry out to my father, I remembered the lyrics to a Casting Crowns song that touches my soul. It's on their Altar and the Door CD, and it's called 'Prayer for a Friend'. Take a moment, as I am doing, to pray these words for those people in your life that are struggling, hurting, and just don't seem to get it...they need us to pray on their behalf; to intervene and to intercede for them...This is my prayer for my 'friend'...

Lord, I lift my friend to You,
I've done all that I know to do-
I lift my friend to You.
Complicated circumstances have clouded his view
Lord, I lift my friend up to You.
I fear that I won't have the words that he needs to hear
I pray for Your wisdom, oh God, and a heart that's sincere
Lord, I lift my friend up to You.

Lord, I lift my friend to You
My best friend in the world, I know he means much more to You
I want so much to help him, but this is something he has to do
And Lord, I lift my friend up to You
'Cause there's a way that seems so right to him
But You know where that leads
He's becoming a puppet of the world, too blind to see the strings
Lord, I lift my friend up to you

Lord, I lift my friend to you
I've done all that I know to do
I lift my friend...to You.

Wendy,
I read your blog this past weekend and you and the whole message of your blog has been on my mind. I have been there, where you are on your knees praying for a friend or even myself. I found this verse and thought of you and your friend when I read it. I will be praying with you for them! You are a great friend. Luv, Kel

God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves...and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
